Patients! Please do not to wait until March 2012 to obtain dental care if your need is urgent! This clinic is for low- or no-income New Mexicans who cannot pay for dental care.

Individuals with dental pain can have an accompanying infection. NO ONE should wait until NMMOM to seek critical dental or medical attention as this could lead to serious health consequences.

NMMOM is a first-come, first-served event. Even if you are in the line to receive care there is a possibility that you will not be seen for care in March. Since care is not guaranteed, do not delay dental treatment.

Dental volunteers will provide basic care such as fillings, extractions, and cleanings at NMMOM. Limited lab work (for example, treatment partials) and limited root canal therapy will be offered if volunteers are available to provide the services. Adults and children are welcome at this event.

In addition, NMMOM volunteers cannot treat patients with some specific medically compromising conditions such as extremely high blood pressure. All potential NMMOM patients will receive an initial medical screening before any treatment is performed.

The clinic will be run on a first-come, first-served basis. Patients will arrive at the treatment facility, register for services, and complete and sign a health release form. Patients will receive an initial screening, or medical triage, and then a volunteer dentist will perform a dental triage to determine what oral procedure(s) are most needed.

Due to the sheer volume of expected patients and time constraints, dentists will not be able to address every dental problem a patient may have. During dental triage, a volunteer dentist will determine which procedure(s) would most benefit the patient.

Patients requiring operative care during NMMOM will receive post-operative instructions along with a phone number and contact name should the individual experience complications in the days immediately following NMMOM. This contact will then be able to refer him or her to a dentist who has agreed to see NMMOM patients for emergency follow-up care.

Throughout NMMOM, patients will receive preventive dental education and instructions on how to properly maintain their oral health.
