Mission of Mercy is a New Mexico Dental Foundation sponsored event. It is a large scale, two day free dental clinic. It is a place and time where dental professionals and community volunteers can come together to help provide dental care for the underserved population in our state. It is a first come, first served clinic where all are welcome. This clinic is for low- or no-income New Mexicans who cannot pay for dental care. In our first event, in Albuquerque, we served a large number of people with the great satisfaction of coming together to help others.

In 2010, the inaugural NM MOM was held in Albuquerque, NM and it was a huge success. A total of 1.3 million dollars in dental services was donated. This event pulled together 1700 volunteers who served over 2200 New Mexico residents and performed 8724 procedures. The 2010 MOM event was the single largest charitable event in New Mexico history. The New Mexico Dental Foundation will be sponsoring our second event here in New Mexico in Las Cruces with the help of the Las Cruces community. The Foundation is an important new player on the public health scene in our state.

Founded in 2005, as the charitable affiliate of the New Mexico Dental Association, the New Mexico Dental Foundation is a place where the big heart of dentistry is on display every day. The Foundation coordinates the Donated Dental Services program that provides year around dental treatment for hundreds of disabled or elderly New Mexicans who cannot afford dental care. The Foundation is responsible for administrating the annual Mission of Mercy event that serves anyone who chooses to receive treatment at a 2 day dental clinic.

New Mexico was the 15th state in the country to participate in Mission of Mercy. The New Mexico Dental Foundation hopes to continue hosting MOM's throughout the state to help as many people as possible. Mission of Mercy events began in Virginia in 2000 through the America's MOM organization (AMOM). AMOM is still integral in helping states put on MOMs across the country. The America's Dentists Care Foundation (ADCF) was established in 2008 as a non-profit corporation to address the need of quality equipment availability for MOM events. They provide equipment, framework and expertise to all state events.

Mission of Mercy in New Mexico is made possible by grants, individual donations and generous corporate gifts. NM MOM receives no governmental funds, and is dependent on grants and donations. Since NM MOM patients are not charged for the dental services they receive, ongoing financial support is a great need. Please consider making a donation to help support this great program.
